Les recettes de ma grand-mère: le far Breton

I was watching a replay of Masterchef last night. Three contestants were fighting to avoid elimination. The challenge: cooking a multiple colored layer cake in 3.5 hours! Waouh! I don’t doubt the cake will be nice and tasty at the end, but who’s got time to cook a desert like that? I love cooking and with the kids running around the house, it has to be a quick and easy dish! I don’t have lots of recipes in my repertoire but the ones I’ve got are the best: my grand-mother’s. On this wet and cold winter day, I decide to bake one of my favorite: the far Breton.

Ingredients:

  • 250g of flour
  • 150g of sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 litre of full cream milk
  • 200g of pitted prunes
  • rhum
  • 2 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • butter (for greasing the baking plate)
  • pinch of salt

Method:

Preheat the oven at 200 degrees.

Put the prunes in a small bowl and pour some rhum (3 tablespoon). Let it soak.

In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar and salt. Add the eggs and mix well to obtain a smooth mixture.

Add the vanilla essence and pour the milk slowly.

Pour the mixture into the buttered baking dish and sprinkle the prunes.

Place in the oven and cook for 30min.

When cooked, allow to cool down and serve.

Bon appétit!
